You can't just do land exercise in the water- it is not effective! This certificate program consists of 4 eLearning courses to help you build a strong foundation for personal training in the water. Understanding the principles of the water, how water affects human movement, the effects of submersion on the body and cardiorespiratory system, and recommended movement and formats for aquatic exercise provides knowledge to enable you to build safe and effective programs to get client results!

Education Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Prerequisites: Approved (accredited) Personal Trainer Certification* or related Higher Education Degree

* This course does not teach the basics of personal training but builds on that knowledge base. It is important to have basic personal training knowledge and skills including health history, risk factor analysis, fitness assessment, and one-on-one programming prior to starting an aquatic personal training carreer. You will be required to show proof of a related higher education degree or Personal Training certification prior to receiving the Specialist Certificate.

Course 1: Introduction to Aquatic Personal Training (3 Hours)

Success as an aquatic personal trainer requires knowledge about the special benefits and qualities the aquatic environment has to offer. Learn how to incorporate that knowledge into your personal training sessions. This course will start you on your way to becoming a successful and effective aquatic personal trainer. Bonus video to help you start to learn aquatic exercises.

Course 2: Aquatic Personal Training Programming (4 Hours)

Learn shallow and deep water exercise techniques and programming formats that work for aquatic personal training. Learn the proper way to determine, monitor, and manipulate intensity in the aquatic environment, a skill critical to the success of your client making progress and reaching goals.

Course 3: Applied Anatomy: Land and Water (4 Hours)

Expand your knowledge of basic muscle action in both land and water. Video, charts, and pictures help you grasp the concept of effective movement and targeting muscles with and without equipment for both environments. Learn the basic principles of aquatic resistance training.

Course 4: Determining Intensity with Aquatic Heart Rates (2 Hours)

Improve the quality of your cardiorespiratory workouts for your clients! Learn how to have your clients working in their target heart rate zones to maximize weight loss and effectively improve function. This course provides evidence based methodology and practice for the often confusing guidelines for aquatic heart rate deductions. Generally accepted equations and methods are provided with easy-to-follow explanations and practice equations. After completing this course you will be able to determine and apply aquatic target heart rates for safe and effective exercise intensity.

Continuing Education credit is included in the price of this course. Successful completion of all 4 courses and course quizzes is required to receive continuing education for each course and to be awarded the Specialist Training Certificate of completion.
